Another voice recital that I’m doing the supertitles for. This recital features a young singer I’ve worked with before and the program sounds really cool – some opera arias, some songs by John Ireland (British art songs are so my jam), and even John Denver’s Perhaps Love. Also this beautiful song, Homeward Bound, that’s been stuck in my head ever since I heard it. There are a couple pieces in Xhosa – which is a South African language I had to google. As nerve wracking as it is to cue titles for a language that I have zero familiarity with, it’s also pretty cool to learn about a different language.
Thanksgiving – Thanksgiving has snuck up on me and I had done zero thinking about it. It will just be a quiet family affair as I have to work on Wednesday and Friday. The 7 year old made the menu: turkey, rainbow jello, steamed broccoli. The 12 year old wants cranberry sauce as well. And there will be pie. Of course. I’ll probably just do a turkey breast since it’s just the five of us.
Wicked the Movie – is coming! The 12 year old and I have a mommy daughter date to go see it. Not sure when, but it’s happening.
Starting rehearsals for a new show – Didn’t I just open one show? Yes. The opera season this fall is PACKED. I’ll close my current show on Saturday and Sunday we start rehearsals for the next show. I’m excited because the 12 year old is in the children’s chorus for this next show. It’ll be fun to work with her. I hope.
Two evenings at home this week. WOW! Think of all the laundry I’ll be able to fold. You think I’m kidding, but I’m not.
Started this book. The male protagonist is kind of a jerk so far, but the premise is really interesting to me.
What are you looking forward to this week?
I’m writing this post as part of NaBloPoMo – thirty blog posts in thirty days- click on the icon below to see who else if participating. You can also leave me questions for an upcoming “Ask me Anything” post via this link. Happy reading and writing, everyone!
That’s a quick turnaround from the end of one show to rehearsals for the next! Ironic as it seems, I am looking forward to writing every day for NaBloPoMo, it’s been very energizing. Also getting my thoughts & plans together for Thanksgiving (and pie — yes!)
pie is the best!
There is indeed something that feels gratifyingly disciplined about writing every day. I haven’t managed to write every day, but I’ve managed more than I haven’t.
Wow, another show! You’re so busy! I’m going to a “Golden Girls” performance this week with my girlfriends, plus dinner out. We are also putting up the tree next weekend, so that’s what I’m looking forward to!
Christmas already!!?!?!?! I can’t even contemplate that yet.
Hooo boy another show! You are a machine!
Looking forward to… Reading more of “The Change” by K. Miller…Wrapping a few presents for L’s 7th birthday (this year her birthday is ON Thanksgiving), watching a movie- or a few, with T. Finishing the Polar Express movie.
Biting the bullet and purchasing France airfare for this summer.
I thought The Change was really fun read.
I’m so excited for your France trip!
I took Wednesday off. Just a random day off! Woot woot! What will I do with that day off? NO ONE KNOWS. I can’t wait.
That sounds amazing! I hope you have a great day!
Hooray for some nights at home! What a busy season for you at work. Do you like packed seasons like this or do you prefer more space between the starts of shows?
I am heading to NYC this afternoon and am looking forward to my time in Manhattan. I love the energy of the city. I kind of regret not living in NYC when I was younger. But at least I get to go there somewhat regularly for work. I’m also glad this is my last trip for 2 weeks. I need a little break and my husband really needs a break from solo parenting.
I don’t usually like doing shows back to back. Especially with this show, I’m prepping the second show while in performances for the first show so there’s no down time. Although, when I was travelling for work, I liked not having time between jobs because I liked just plunging from one show to the next without having time to contemplate my life choices.
I hope you enjoy your time in NYC, but also your time at home!
Yikes, I’m guessing you will need those two days off with the kind of schedule you work, even if does mean folding laundry. I hope you get to see Wicked. Me and mine are looking forward to getting to see this one too.
I don’t go to the movies very often, so I’m really excited for Wicked!
I’ve never seen a rainbow jello, I hope you snap a photo!
Looking forward to sharing the last episode about Luna on my blog. 🙂
I’m looking forward to reading more about Luna Lapin’s adventures!
Wicked hadn’t really crossed my radar until my son told me yesterday – rather randomly – he really wants to go with me.
Kae told me that The Best Christmas Pageant Ever is coming to theatres before Christmas, too. I might have to take my kids to that as well. Tomorrow is cheap day…can I swing it time-wise…??
ooh! I didn’t know about the Best Christmas Pageant Ever! I love that book so much, though; I’m sort of scared to see a movie version of it.
Two days to fold laundry! I understand why that’s exciting.
I’m currently looking forward to Thanksgiving and some time off work!
We’re going to have a big storm this week, I think, and I’m looking forward to the time when everyone is home safe and we can have some chili for dinner and listen to the rain outside.
Somehow I can’t believe next week is Thanksgiving. There will be 6 of us, and 2 do not eat turkey, and I don’t care, I’m making a whole bird. I need to have enough leftovers to make my Leftover turkey chili, which is very different than turkey chili made with ground meat.
I’m laughing at you happily at home folding laundry! But I get it- when you’re gone so much any time at home feels like a luxury.
I’m looking forward to my son coming home!!!!!!! That’s my big one. I’m also looking forward to a concert my daughter is playing in, and our high school football game on Friday.
Wow you are busy with opening a show just to close it and jump right in to the next one.
Yeah for two evenings off.
Your job sounds so fascinating, but I couldn’t imagine always working in the evenings. Do you enjoy this schedule or is it something you just have to accept as part of your job?
I don’t mind the schedule once I’m on it, but it’s always a shift to go from rehearsing during the day when we are in the rehearsal room to rehearsing at night when we get onstage. It’s a lot harder now that I have kids, I will admit.
