Happy New Year, everyone!
It’s been a little quiet here lately, I know. We are currently on our way home after a week in Taiwan followed by four days in Kuala Lumpur. The trip has been beautiful, exhilarating, exhausting, eye opening, and full of loved ones. I think I realized on this trip, the most important thing is family.
Here are some highlights, in case I don’t get to write recaps.
There was so much food:
Night Markets in Taiwan:
Temples:
Visiting Family:
Amazing hotel breakfasts:
Such well thought out family bathrooms:
Even a few quiet moments:
And in Kuala Lumpur, iconic sights:
Animal sightings:
Islamic Art:
And even more food:
There were definitely times when I thought we made the wrong choice to come this far, to be in a part of the world so different from home. There were tears and arguments and lots of people being hangry. We’d never travelled so far as a family of five, and I have to say I am so proud of how everyone did. It hasn’t been the most comfortable or relaxing trips- I wouldn’t even call it a “vacation”- but it’s certainly been an adventure.
More soon!
I hope you have had a beautiful New Year!
I would like one vacation without hangry conversations. Sigh.
Your trip looks amazing! Thank you for sharing pictures.
BTW, I went to the Cassett exhibit in SF (and wrote about it on my blog on Jan 1) and I LOVED IT. I did not expect to be as blown away as I was. I’m not a creative process so often find the details of how an artist creates kind of confusing/boring. But wow, what an amazing artist she was. I’m so glad that you wrote about it, so I didn’t skip those parts of the exhibit.
ooh I’m so glad you saw the Cassett exhibit! Wasn’t it so wonderful?
OMG it is NEVER a vacation when you travel with small kids, it’s a trip! But it sounds like you had a great trip, seeing so many things, and your kids will always remember it. Happy New Year!
I hope the kids remember this trip. Or at least something of it. They seemed to like the food a lot…
You did it! And I am glad it was a mostly positive experience. Hanger is REAL. I struggled w/ that at a visit to our local zoo that made me wonder how I would ever do a big, complex trip with my children… but we’ll get there. I can’t wait to hear more about it. That hotel breakfast looks amazing!! Have a safe trip back!!
I’m almost glad that COVID took travel off the table when the youngest was a baby and that we are now travelling with older young kids. Having them be able to carry their own backpack is a bonus, for sure!
I can’t wait to hear all about it. Big trips with kids are so exhausting, but I’m sure you will all treasure these memories for a lifetime (and the memories of hanger will DEFINITELY fade with time).
All the best with settling back into routines. That’s the part of travel I dread the most.
Thanks! yea, re-entry is always hard. It’s a combination of so much to catch up on, but needing a day to settle back. Luckily with the time difference we have two whole days to re-adjust before Monday. (And I hear it might be a snow day, so maybe more…)
No travel abroad, with kids, ever goes smoothly. The fact you got to the other side of the planet and back, in one piece is an achievement in and of itself. Certainly it sounds like a memorable trip. Bravo!
